  1. Everyone in the ONS is currently complaining about how many vacancies aren’t getting filled. If you want to do the work of two people try applying there.

  2. The true connoisseur has the beans next to the toast rather than on it, to maintain maximum toast crispness and viability.

  3. They make my Bluetooth headphones distort when I go near them, I know that much.

  4. All downhill from Branston that's for sure.

  5. Tesco middle of the range own brand beans are my go to preferred beans. We asked this chef at a vegan restaurant what he was using and this was it. Never looked at Heinz again.

  6. wff says:

Dont get me wrong I like the concept of pies, but I don’t understand why anyone would do this over buying a fund or an ETF. Although I don’t advocate for fund managers as index funds always outperform any actively managed funds, at least these people have studied their entire lives and have built a career on picking the right stocks, instead of some randomer on an app making pies.

  7. Why does anyone invest in hedge funds or use fund managers if they don’t outperform the S&P 500? Just out of curiosity.

  8. Except gold bullion isnt easily transported.

  9. But more easily buried in a wooden box in the woods under that tree that has bark that reminds you of the skin on your grandmother’s heel.

  10. In the 1920s Florida experienced a land / property boom, where properties that were previously $500 were suddenly selling for $10,000. Some people actually bought property that was underwater in the hope that the water would be drained and it would be valuable real estate, and in some cases it worked.

  11. I apologize that this isn’t really answering your question, but one of the fun things about learning Russian after having read A Clockwork Orange in high school is finding out how many of the slang words are just straight up Russian words. “Droog” (друг) does mean “friend” (though the plural in Russian isn’t “droogs”), “moloko” (молоко) means "milk," etc. The one that annoys me (and this isn’t specific to A Clockwork Orange) is “babooshka” (бабушка) because English speakers always want to put the stress on the “oo” in the middle, but in Russian, the stress is on the first syllable.

  12. Compare the U.K. to America for instance; New York is the financial capital, D.C is the political capital, California is the entertainment capital. In the U.K. London occupies all of those roles. The rest of the country has been under-utilised in those industries. Recently we’ve seen political devolution and things like Media City in Salford, but they’re barely scratching the surface.

  13. And don't be shy of the pig's head on toast.

  14. Got a 3am cab home from the hospital a couple of months ago. The driver encouraged me to sit in the front, and talked the whole time.

  15. I can smell the inside of that bus from here, looks like it was made in 1972.

  16. Yeah I think those ceremonial uniforms are throwing people off but those are actual soldiers

  17. When Parliament is sitting you can go and sit in the house of commons (or lords) public gallery for free. You pass through Westminster hall to get there. No tickets or anything, just turn up and expect to go through airport style security.

  18. To be fair he likely got an invite, and might be near the back somewere. Hes pretty openly republican, but also not a death to the monarchy type.

  19. They all filed past the camera at the end and I didn’t see him. I imagine he elected not to attend.

  20. That's how they'll screw us out of bank holidays - increasingly short reigning monarchs who never reach significant milestones.

  21. If we get a new monarch every 10 years then that’s a bank holiday every 10 years.

  22. My point is that just being british and doing good things is not enough. You have to directly benefit Britain in a big way.

  23. And Guernsey (and Gibraltar) did the gun salute today so I imagine that counts as expressing mourning.
